The central nervous system is connected and runs via the spine.
These nerves then go outwards from the spine and collect impulses from all over the body, both the muscles and the skin.
When the area around the back and the neck is stimulated, signals are fired from the nerves in the skin along the spinal cord to the sensory cortex in the brain.
